The 29th Division Museum

Welcome to The 29th Division Museum!

Visit The 29th Division Museum to explore more than 280 years of American and world history through the story of the one United States Army infantry division and member units. From 1741 to Yorktown, Manassas to Appomattox, Verdun, Omaha Beach, even Iraq and Afghanistan, our Citizens have become American soldiers and made world history. The 29th Division Museum tells their stories. We exhibit a rare collection of artifacts and house archival materials related to our Citizen Soldiers, the 116th Infantry Regiment, the 29th Infantry Division and the U.S. Army.

First organized in 1917, the 29th Division’s original member organizations could trace military lineage back to the French and Indian War, The American Revolution, the War of 1812, The Mexican-American War, the American Civil War, and the Spanish-American War. The 29th Infantry Division, and notably its 116th Infantry Regiment, is also tied historically to the Allied amphibious landings at Normandy on 6 June 1944. The Division distinguished itself for heroism and sacrifice landing in the first waves of assault troops and successive waves of landings at Omaha Beach. The Normandy landing and combat service in the European Theater of Operations is a compelling story of the Division’s war experience, casualties, medals won, and key role in opening a path for the liberation of Nazi-occupied Europe.

Now known forever as the “Blue and Gray Division”, The 29th Division and its subordinate units have been mobilized and deployed repeatedly around the world, from border security missions in New Mexico to acting as peacekeepers and observers in the Sinai Peninsula and Bosnia. Members also served in combat roles in the global war on terrorism in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, the units have a long record of service in the classic role of the National Guard as a first responder in support of state emergencies as defined by the governors of the states the member units hale from.
