We are Saving A Cabin!

For the past year, we have been rebuilding a very special structure adjacent to the 29th Division Museum.

Built at Ft. Meade, MD, during World War I by Doughboys awaiting deployment to Europe, the soldiers cut trees for logs, made nails out of horseshoes and cut hinges from wagon tires.  Our rebuild and restoration have attempted to preserve these original features.  Of special interest is Pat, the unit’s mascot, who has also been preserved and restored.

You can follow the cabin’s progress with the links below.  Dedication of the restored cabin will be later this year.

When complete, the cabin will house an enriched WWI exhibit and artifacts.  The cabin’s story is told in the recently published book, 100 Cities-100 Memorials.
